Chuck Mangione Quartet Artist, Chris Vadala, Featured with the Pensacola Civic Band at the 2016 FooFoo Festival
The 45th season of the Pensacola Civic Band opens on November 12, 2016 at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre featuring one of the country’s foremost woodwind artists, Chris Vadala.
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story share many similar themes. Most notably is that of forbidden love. The Pensacola Civic Band presents “Forbidden Love (and Sax),” a musical experience that brings these two stories to life. The program includes Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” and “Some Other Time” as well as jazz favorites “Quintessence” by Quincy Jones, “Take the A Train” by Duke Ellington, and “Feel of a Vision” by Chuck Mangione.
The featured artist, Chris Vadala, is in demand as a jazz/classical performer and educator. He has appeared on more than 100 recordings to date, as well as innumerable jingle sessions, film and TV scores. His performing career has been highlighted by a long tenure as standout woodwind artist with the internationally recognized Chuck Mangione Quartet.
In addition, he has performed and/or recorded with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Placido Domingo, Natalie Cole, Herbie Hancock, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Henry Mancini, Doc Severinsen, and many others.
